/Solenoid controlled safety interlock switches
Solenoid controlled safety interlock switches are used to lock machine guards, access doors, and hatches in applications where hazardous motion or stored energy requires the guard to remain locked until a safe state has been reached. Unlike position‑only safety switches, solenoid‑controlled interlocks both monitor the guard position and physically prevent opening until machine stop or hazard dissipation has been confirmed.
Our product range includes solenoid controlled safety interlock switches from IDEM Safety, designed for sliding, hinged, and removable guards. The switches feature positively operated contacts for monitoring both guard position and lock status and comply with EN 60947‑5‑1 and ISO 14119 requirements. Solutions are available with different holding forces (typically up to 2000–3000 N), multiple actuator and housing options, and mechanical or electrical release features such as rear escape release for maintenance and emergency situations.
Solenoid controlled safety interlock switches can be connected to safety relays or safety controllers and can achieve up to PLe / Category 4 or SIL 3 functional safety levels depending on the system architecture. Integrated LED status indicators simplify installation, diagnostics, and maintenance. IP69K‑rated stainless steel versions are particularly suitable for food, pharmaceutical, and process industries where durability, hygiene, and frequent washdown are required.
