/Hinge Safety Interlocks
Hinge safety interlocks are designed for the safe position monitoring of hinged machine guard doors, hatches, and swing‑open protective covers. The safety function is integrated directly into the hinge mechanism, eliminating the need for separate actuators or tongue‑type interlocks. This results in a compact, mechanically robust, and difficult‑to‑defeat solution, particularly well suited for applications where installation space is limited or a discreet safety solution is required.
Our product range includes hinge safety interlock switches from IDEM Safety, available in die‑cast metal or 316 stainless steel housings. These devices function both as a load‑bearing hinge and a safety interlock switch, and they comply with the positive opening requirements of IEC 60947‑5‑1. Safety contacts are actuated at a very small opening angle of the guard (typically around 6–7°, adjustable up to 12°), enabling fast and reliable detection of guard movement. Versions with IP67 and IP69K ingress protection are available, making them suitable for harsh, washdown, and hygiene‑critical environments.
Hinge safety interlocks are available with voltage‑free contacts or OSSD outputs, allowing integration with standard safety relays and safety controllers. These solutions are widely used in packaging machinery, robotic cells, food and pharmaceutical processing, and industrial automation applications.
